Driving Directions

From I-64 East take I-264 East toward Virginia Beach


Take First Colonial rd (south) which becomes Oceana blvd and go 3.5 miles.
Turn right on General Booth and go 2.6 miles.
Turn left on Princess Anne (Nimmo Church on left corner) and go 5.1 miles remembering to veer right at the sandbridge intersection after the school on the right.
Turn left on Pleasant Ridge rd and go 1.3 miles.
Turn right into the gravel driveway at 1601 Pleasant Ridge Rd at the white and green mailboxes (before passing the Briarwood Farm sign).

 

Please park in the front of the barn (near riding ring).  Parking between barns is reserved for the vet, farrier and vehicles pulling trailers.  Alcohol, smoking and foul language are prohibited.

 

Proper barn attire is required and shoes with toe protection are suggested.

 

 


Facilities  Briarwood Farm has 6 large pastures, 3 foaling pastures a quarantine paddock, two well illuminated center aisle barns and a nearby feed, bedding & equipment storage shed. The main barn has twenty one 12' x 12' stalls with automatic waterers, solid rubber mats over 6" of bluestone and a 3' sand/lime base, positive ventilation, automatic fly spray & deoderant system, air conditioned lounge overlooking the riding ring, full height tack lockers, washer and dryer, two 12’ x 12’ center draining heated wash stalls with hot/cold water and a covered farrier stall all under one roof. The broodmare/breeding barn has four 14' x 12' rubber-matted foaling stalls. Our riding ring is 125’ wide by 250’ long, with a stonedust base and our lunge pens are 36' & 50' with a deep sand base.  Additionally, four acres of new pastures are under seed for availability by 2006.
Services  Our full service horse boarding services are stall-based and includes horse turnout seven days a week, daily stall cleaning, twice daily owner/vet choice of hay and feed, plentiful fresh water from automatic waterers in every stall.  The best available high quality hay and select feeds are provided.  Bedding/shavings are stored separately from the barns in a nearby storage shed. (Horse diet, medication, turn-in/out, blanketing, etc. closely follow owner/Vet instructions and each horse is inspected daily for any physical changes or impending problems.)  Owners and the Farrier or Vet are called immediately if problems are detected (e.g., hoof soreness, nasal drainage, loss of appetite, lost shoe, etc.)

Lessons  Lisa Doczi is the primary instructor for intermediate and advanced private (one student) or semi-private riding lessons.  Additionally, lessons are available from some of the areas best hunter and dressage riding instructors.  Individual attention enables the serious rider to progress much more rapidly than they could in larger classes. Lessons are founded upon trust, patience, good comunication and most importantly, regular riding practice.  Lessons with qualified instructors can be arranged to meet a variety of riding styles and time schedules.  Routine exercising of horses can be arranged.

Ambiance  We look forward to touring Briarwood Farm with you!  Briarwood is one of the finer places to board, have fun, relax and ride in Virginia Beach, Virginia!  The convenient location, ample parking, large tack locker room, open air barn, low dust ring, border trails, lunge pens, facilities, staff, and the range of services offered maintain an environment where riders can visit as their work and schedules allow.  Also, we have been very fortunate to get to know the people who board at our farm. They are all friendly, educated, intelligent and helpful.
